Riding lessons

6 Ashes Riding Centre offers both private (1:1) and group (1:3 max) lessons for people aged 5 years and above. We cater for all abilities from complete novice to more advanced riders.

Our lessons range from 30 minutes to 1 hour and are provided all year round what ever the weather. The riding school facilitates a flood lit menage for the darker evenings and a jumping paddock during the warmer months.

Tailored to you

Our lessons are tailored to meet the needs of each individual.

For adults and children who have previously not had any or very little riding experience, we recommend starting with 30 minute riding lessons on a one to one basis with an instructor. There is a discount for beginners when a 5 lesson package is purchased, receiving a 6th lesson for free.

Group lessons have a minimum of 2 and maximum of 3 people to ensure lessons deliver high quality tuition and range from 45 minutes to 1 hour. Our group lessons are organised by age and ability.

Our horses

Our horses and ponies are well trained and we don't put you on a horse which is too big or too small for you. Here at 6 Ashes we feel that it is important to allow our horses to be horses, where many of the riding school horses will take part in various shows and competitions throughout the year.

We believe that in doing so, riders are able to better benefit during their lessons and rather than just being put on a horse that follows the leader and does everything for you, riders must instead learn how to properly control and ride a horse.

What to wear...

To start off you will need leggings or something without a seam so that your legs are not rubbed (beware, jeans can rub badly.) Footwear should have a small heel. Most trainers and some Wellington boots have a flat sole and are therefore not suitable.

Riding hats can be provided by the riding school free of charge. If your hair is longer than shoulder length, you should make sure it is tied back securely.
