Here's a small introduction to the team at 6 Ashes. All our horses are different and have their own personalities, making each one of them special to us. The staff here at 6 Ashes want to make your experience with us a good one, so get to know us all and enjoy your time here with us.
The Horses
Charlie Blue & Dan This is one of Gaynor's first horses, Charlie Blue (left). He used to compete in showjumping, and has done some hunting. Now at the ripe old age of 21, he is anything but ready to give up! He competes in dressage, showjumping and cross country. This is Dan on the right, and he is a firm favourite with a lot of our clients - adults and children. He has been at the yard for some time but is still going strong. He has had a bit of a hard time in the past, and isn't too keen on poles and jumps. He and Charlie are good friends and will always be found together in the field.
Percy One of the latest additions to the yard is Percy. He is a 6 year old Welsh gelding, and is very handsome with his striking black coat and four white socks. Although still learning both in the school and out hacking, he has begun training in dressage, show jumping and cross country and has started competing at small competitions.
Jem & Cloudy Cloudy and Jem are two of the little ponies we have at 6 Ashes. They are best of friends and do everything together. They can be hard to tell apart of you don't know them, but Cloudy - the pony on the right - is blind in one of her eyes. Cloudy was Gaynor's first pony at 6 Ashes. They are both very kind natured, and are very popular with the children who come for lessons. They are very gentle with the little novice riders, and can both step up the pace when they need to!
Jacko This is Jacko (right). He is a beautiful palomino pony and very cheeky! He likes to pull rugs onto the floor when he thinks no one is looking. Jacko used to be a show pony before he came to 6 Ashes.
Ellie & Ludo This is Ellie (left) , Gaynor's 16 - year old mare. She has been at 6 Ashes for 5 years, and is now much happier than when she first came. She was quite a handful, so much so that Gaynor wasn't going to keep her! She had her 1st foal 12 months ago, named Harry. Gaynor is steadily bringing her back into work.
This handsome boy (right) is Welt Master Sent, or Ludo as he is known here on the yard. Gaynor bought him in June 2008 as a 5 year old. He is Mik's cousin and has competed and won in show jumping. Gaynor plans to bring him on in show jumping and dressage. He is a cheeky lad, always has his nose in something looking for a titbit! He is just starting his career in BSJA (British Show Jumping Association) with rider Faye Hopkins (see Faye's profile below).
Mik This is Kwalitait, aka Mik, Gaynor's competition horse. He is used for lunge lessons. His background, and what he is really great at, is dressage. In his past he competed at Advanced Medium level, but decided he didn't like the pressure, so Gaynor bought him and took him right back to the beginning. He has come on in leaps and bounds and is the most well-mannered horse you could hope to meet.
The Staff
Gaynor (aka "The Boss") Gaynor Moorcroft has the pleasure of owning all these beautiful horses and she runs 6 Ashes Riding Centre. As well as teaching at the yard, Gaynor also competes in dressage and showjumping, and is also starting to get back into cross country. She looks after the day to day running of the yard, both riding school and livery, and is the person to contact to book lessons and hacks, or to enquire about livery.
Sabrina (Head Girl) Sabrina Salters first came to 6 Ashes on her school work experience. Since then she has become a permanent and valuable member of the team here, looking after the horses and the yard on a full time basis. Sabrina is currently training for her BHS stage 2 and her NVQ II. She has her own horse which she shows, and is currently bringing on a youngster to sell. She is beginning to get involved in competing in small hunter trials, showjumping and dressage.
Emma & Beth
Emma Kelly and Bethany Aston started riding here at 6 Ashes before beginning to help out at the weekends. They each now have a pony on loan here at the yard; Emma has Winston and Beth has Jacko. Emma has represented her school, Lacon Childe, in a team show jumping event on Winston, who came 4th place overall. Beth is doing well on Jacko, competing at local shows in dressage and show jumping.
Fancy dress - Molly, Beth & Sabrina Beth and Jacko
Faye Hopkins Faye has her BHS level 3 qualifications and is working towards the AI. Faye is currenlty at University studying to be a PE teacher. She competes regularly on Ludo, doing BSJA (British Show Jumping Association). She is also a popular instructor with many of the children and adults bringing her valuable knowledge of horsemanship to the Centre.
Faye and Ludo
Susi & Molly Susi has joined the Pony Club and has riding lessons at 6 Ashes. Molly helps at weekends, and has competed on Charlie Blue. Both are valued members of The Gang!
